In hindsight, going to UW as an OOS pre-sciences student probably wasn't the best move; I didn't realize what I was getting into until it came time to compete with perfect 4.0 students for spots in competitive majors.
I enjoyed being in Seattle, but the whole time I was there I was super stressed out and pretty depressed due to not having a major. I considered going back to community college, transferring to UWB, etc...
So I transferred out, switched majors and started studying what I wanted to. I worked hard to maintain a high GPA, got a good internship in my field, and now I am currently a senior.
I just recently got admitted into one of the top Master's programs in my field- I am pretty confident in my career plans and that I will be in a high paying job after the program is over.
If you asked me when I was in Seattle, I had no idea where I was going in my life, what I would end up studying, if I would even graduate from UW or not. It took time, but I researched my options clearly, worked hard, and now I am doing a lot better.
I had fun in Seattle- got to go to big games, parties, see the big classroom environment. But it just wasn't the right place for me to be for my academics.
I remember reading some posts like these when I was in Seattle, feeling so lost. Hopefully this can serve as motivation for some of you who are in a similar spot to where I was not too long ago.

A new option they've added on the site (maybe the app too, I don't use it so don't know) is being able to see your survey response score. It's in the drop down menu where you can see your profile, view your balance, profile settings etc
Mine's 7/10 right now.
I don't know how quickly it updates. Mine was 10/10 the other day. I'm assuming it changes quickly and if you get a lot of declines it'll drop.
This won't be good for paranoia.

Companies want someone who can "hit the ground running" with no training period. However there are also a ton of entry level people trying to get in, but can't break the 3-5 YOE barrier. Isn't the simplest solution for this to simply hire and train more juniors? The claim is that they will just leave after 3 years but if that's the case why not make them simply sign a X years long noncompete agreement? or if they have stocks/401k matching make them vest after only X years? or simply hire more as interns that way if it doesn't work out it's not awkward to not hire them? What about contract to hire? What about lowering salaries but giving a bonus after X amount of years to incentivize them to stay? There are all kinds of mechanisms to do this, at the end of the day it may be a different context in EU/Canada but in the US there is no protection for a worker so they can simply be fired instantly if it isn't working out. Given these circumstances, isn't it irrational to not simply train juniors? And if juniors really are contributing marginal value to these orgs, why not simply hire them at a lower salary that reflects their actual contribution instead of whining that the guy you have to pay $80k/yr isn't doing good enough work. Hire two people for $40k a year and whichever one ends up being productive after 1/2/3 years you keep and give a pay raise and the other one gets laid off and goes to work at a wordpress shop, probably. There is literally no reason not to hire juniors, hell in the US, you can even do unpaid internships if you want and budgets are literally that tight. INB4 what if they break production, the processes in place should prevent any one person other than a senior ops person from breaking it all, let alone an intern/junior.
